Are you a Holy Demon?
Tokyo-based artist seeks to create an artist collective focused on sharing God's love with those on the fringes.

Why the name?
Two reasons: First, the name is inspired by the professional wrestling tag team of Toshiaki Kawada and Akira Taue, who dominated Japan in the 1990s - as the Holy Demon Army. Second, the name represents holy people that the church perceive as outsiders, due to their lifestyle or appearance.

Rooted in history.
Shōkan. Jizō. Sōjōbō. Japanese folklore tells of many demons who became good in the Buddhist traditions. These stories were not only written down but also depicted in traditional Japanese ukiyo-e. These facts not only root the existence of evil creatures who turned to good in Japanese history, but also a heritage of Japanese artists who created beauty from these tales.

Happening today.
Saturo. Denji. Alucard. Anime has depicted demonic protagonists since 1964’s Naita Aka Oni - protagonists who wouldn't be perceived as good at first glance. Their stories are compelling and unpredictable because they force us to reconsider what really makes a good person. Anime fans built a vibrant culture around stories like these. Our work will positively impact our anime culture from within.
